Basics

1. What is StarCraft: Brood War?

StarCraft is an award-winning real-time strategy PC (and Mac) game created by Blizzard Entertainment. Brood War is an expansion of the game and features some new units. You will need the Brood War expansion to play the map Team Micro Arena Legends. Visit Blizzard's Website (extern link) to read more about StarCraft: Brood War.

top

2. What is Team Micro Arena?

Team Micro Arena is an ums map for StarCraft: Brood War. Two teams of two, three or four players play against each other and try to destroy the other teams Head Quarters. To do that, each player chooses from multiple default unit selections. Once selected, they spawn in the arena and can be controlled. Selectable heroes and the Kill Point system add a huge amount of strategic gameplay to the map.

top

3. Team Micro Arena and Team Micro Arena Legends...what's the difference?

Team Micro Arena is an umbrella term for a specific type of map. There are several TMA versions existing, like Gold, Desert, Wired or Legends. Team Micro Arena Legends is only one of them, but in our opinion the best because it offers most strategical possiblities. That's why we chose this one and have been developing it since 2004. If Team Micro Arena stood for pizza, Team Micro Arena Legends might be Pizza Margharita...got it?

top

4. Where's the difference between Team Micro Arena and a normal StarCraft game?

Well, there are two basic game types possible on the battle.net - melee and ums. Best known and usual is the melee mode: Two or more guys guys have individual bases and start to expand. They create more buildings, enhance the technology and produce units to finally attack and destroy the opponent. This needs some good macro skills.
The other game type is called ums - use map settings. This is used to play maps which have special objectives and differ from the original 'build and destroy principle'. There are thousands of ums maps like the countless defense maps. Team Micro Arena maps are ums maps too. Compared to melee games, you almost don't need any macro. You primarily focus on your micro what makes the gameplay very fast and action-packed.

5. Macro...micro...what's that?

Macromanagement stands for actions concerning the production of buildings and units. It's an essential part of the game when you play a melee game. Micromanagement is all about the control of your units like using spells or pulling back damaged ones. In a TMA game there is almost no macro at all - you only have to choose your units. It strongly focuses on your micro and that's what it makes it that fast and action-packed.

6. Something I should basically know about the different races?

Let me think about it...erm...yes. For instance Terran mechanical units can be repaired by SCVs. All Zerg units slowly regenerate their Health Points automatically. And Protoss units are protected by some Shield Points which have to be killed before you can attack the real Health Points. If you really didn't know one of these facts, quickly visit Blizzard's StarCraft Compendium (extern link) and get enlightened.

About the Map

1. Where can I get the newest version of Team Micro Arena Legends?

You will find all version of Team Micro Arena Legends and some other common TMA maps in the Download Section.

top

2. How long does a game usually last?

Well a game on TMA Legends can take quite some time. On average I would say something between 15 and 20 minutes versus weaker opponents. If both teams are kinda equal it will take between 30 minutes and an hour. We played inner games which lastet almost two hours. But don't be scared, time flies and you will get used to it.

top

3. What is an inner game?

In an inner game, you know the players. It's a privat game mostly protected by a password and consisting of players who made an appointment. The opposite is a public game. In this one you don't know who and how many guys will join.

top

4. I have some new ideas about the map, how can i tell you?

There are several ways, but the best one is definitly to use our Community Forum. That way, others are also able to form an opinion about it and we can discuss if your ideas are included into a new version of Team Micro Arena Legends.

top

5. For how many players is Team Micro Arena Legends?

TMA Legends can be played 2on2 or 3on3 at most. 1on1 is not playable since it is a teambased map. Other versions like TMA Desert are playable 4on4. It is possible to modify TMA Legends for eight players, but it would certainly lack of clarity because there were just too many units in the arena. If enough people are interested in a 4on4 TMA Legends map, contact us or use the Community Forumand we might modify the map.

top

6. Are there any replays of some gosu TMA games?

There are some existing, but who wants to watch an hour of TMA replay? You? If you do, contact us or use the Community Forum and I will upload some.

top

7. Are there any rules?

Feel free to play just the way you want. However, there are some things you shouldn't do. For instance: No teamkill, don't leave locked units without killing them, don't try to suicide every unit you selected and - last but not least - try to stay mannered. Thx!

top

8. Which units/heroes are the best?

It absolutely depends on the situation. Visit the How To Play section. When you read that one, also check out The Zones as well as The Units and you should be able to answer this one yourself.

top

9. Some of the units/heroes seem to be pretty useless...what do you say?

Some units are very often selected and others almost never, because they aren't that strong especially without support. But every unit/hero has its sense and can perform a specific task. Nothing is useless if you know how to handle it.

top

10. What are these Raszagals doing behind the Nexus?

Due to the fact that it is not possible to create a Raszagal unit on the map per trigger, it already has to be on the map when the game starts. They are kinda stored there and teleported if you select it as your hero.

top

11. My ally is an idiot, why should I play with him?

Although I have to admit that there are some idiots out there, many people aren't but just don't know how to play. Try to talk to him and tell him what to choose and why. If he's interested also tell him about this site and the next time you meet in a game he will probably do much better.

14. Your map sucks!

Not really a question, but ok...erm...just don't play it? The other possibility was to tell us what exactly you don't like and why. Feel free to use the Community Forum.

6. Anything more to say?

Yes! I want to thank all guys who were hanging around on the battle.net with me during the last years - especially our members but also all the others. The site, the map, the clan...without your support and the joy of playing Team Micro Arena Legends, nothing of this would be like it is today. Thanks...and let's keep it that way. TMA 4 Life!
